When starting a new block of classes, we always ask students to bring their dog, a long line, treats and toys their dog loves.
Which is easy for us to say, as we train dogs on the daily but we appreciate it’s actually really quite tricky to work out what to go for, when the market is entirely saturated.
Lets have a look at some tasty food options that we have tried and tested for class!
In classes where we are luring the dogs, or shaping incremental movements we go through a lot of food. Importantly, we want the dogs to be thinking about what they are doing, not becoming over aroused and just thinking about getting the food! In this scenario, kibble is a great choice.
Vale: Vale Salmon kibble – Vale food food is a really nice size to train with, leaving space for lots of repetitions! It is ideal for small dogs too, as the kibble really is that small. It’s great value for money too! You can follow our referral link above or use our code GDO10 to get 10% of your order shopwide!
Edgar Cooper: Salmon Grain free – This is another great kibble! The pieces are much bigger than vale, but still maintain a really good nutrition content. You can buy it on Amazon >> here <<
In class, there definitely is a place for higher value treats! When we need to put some pressure on a skill, or amp up the dog, higher value definitely has its place!
Vale: Tasty Training treats These treats are soft but hold their form well and are not slimey. They also have a tasty smell to them, but are not over powering! My favourite thing about them is I can break them up into numerous rewards, or I can leave them entire for the dog (and me!) to be able to see the reward visually.
My ultimate faves! Irish Rover Beef treats – I am lowkey obsessed with these treats. They can be bought in Costco, or on Amazon. They again have a dry texture, but are soft for the dogs, smell good and can be broken up with your fingers. I have popped in the link to Amazon.
I will leave this with you to digest, and would love to know what works best for you and your pup!
All products linked will reward us with a small monetary benefit if purchased, which we always put back into our equipment for classes and spoiling our pups.
